Ashanti Region — April 20, 2026
National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has urged cocoa farmers to direct their grievances over challenges in the sector to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

Speaking during an engagement with chiefs and party supporters in the Ashanti Region on April 18, 2026, Asiedu Nketiah said the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration dismantled measures put in place by the previous NDC government.
He claimed the move has negatively affected cocoa production and farmer welfare.
“This is an opportunity for government to take bold measures to ensure that cocoa farmers don’t face such difficulties any more,” he said.
He reecod the NDC government commitment towards a significant policy shift aimed at transformating Ghana’s cocoa sector with plans to process at least 50% of the country’s cocoa beans locally starting from 2026-2027 crop season.
Asiedu Nketiah’s comments came after the Minority Caucus in Parliament demanded his response to concerns over a cut in the cocoa producer price under the current NDC government.
Responding at the event, Nana Ofori Amanfo, Asankaman Gyidomhene, speaking on behalf of the traditional council, expressed gratitude to Asiedu Nketiah and commended his leadership.
