Oforikrom DRIP Tipper Truck Crashes at Trede; Coordinator Accused of Unauthorized Use

Oforikrom, Ashanti Region — April 20, 2026

A tipper truck belonging to the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly’s District Road Improvement Programme has been involved in an accident at Konkoli near Trede in the Atwima Kwanwoma District, sparking tension at the assembly.

The truck reportedly crashed into a building on Easter Monday, April 5, 2026, destroying a Mercedes-Benz with registration number GW-7851-Z. No injuries were reported.

Sources within the assembly told OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng that DRIP Coordinator Raphael Tampuri allegedly deployed the truck for work outside official assembly duties. One source claimed the vehicle was being used to transport sand in the Trede area when the crash occurred.

“We were earlier told the truck had developed a fault and was out for repairs, only for it to get involved in an accident,” the source said. “The accident occurred on a holiday when all official government work had been put on hold.”

The source added that the truck has since been towed to a garage at Suame Magazine for repairs.

The incident has triggered calls from some individuals for action against Tampuri and the Municipal Chief Executive.

When contacted, Mr. Tampuri said the matter is being handled by senior officials and he could not comment for now.

Attempts to reach the MCE for comment were unsuccessful at press time.
