Faulty Oforikrom Traffic Light Fixed After Over a Decade; MCE Credits KNUST Students

Oforikrom, Ashanti Region — April 21, 2026

A faulty traffic light at the Opoku Transport intersection in Oforikrom Municipality, which residents say had not worked for over a decade, has been repaired.

Municipal Chief Executive Hon. Awel Sadat said he prioritized the intersection upon assuming office due to safety concerns.

He engaged engineering students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to restore the lights to normal function.

Local accounts indicate the non-functioning signal contributed to pedestrian safety risks at the busy crossing.

Residents claim over 10 people have died while attempting to cross the road in the past years.

Hon. Sadat cautioned road users, especially drivers, to drive with care to help prevent road accidents.

Drivers and commuters who use the road have expressed gratitude to the MCE and the Assembly for the intervention.
