Common Fund Delays Nearly Forced MMDCE Resignations Under Akufo-Addo-Bono Minister

Dormaa, Bono Region — April 23, 2026

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has accused the previous NPP government of hindering local development through delays and shortfalls in the District Assemblies Common Fund.

He said some Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives nearly resigned from their posts under former President Nana Akufo-Addo due to persistent delays in DACF disbursements.

“Aside from common fund delays, the amounts released were inadequate to undertake significant projects to benefit residents,” he said.

Speaking at an accountability forum held at a Presbyterian Church in Dormaa during his regional tour, Hon. Akwaboa stated that the Dormaa Central Municipal Assembly received only GH¢719,000 as its total Common Fund allocation for the whole of 2024.

He said the inadequate funding hindered development across most assemblies, resulting in lagging infrastructure, economic, and transformational growth.

The Minister contrasted that with the current NDC government, which he said has been consistent in disbursing the DACF.

He told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari of Sunyani-based Ark FM that the government paid over GH¢14 million to the Dormaa Municipal Assembly for the third quarter alone.

“Thanks to the prompt disbursement of the fund by President John Dramani Mahama, the Dormaa Municipal Assembly is embarking on meaningful projects focused on addressing infrastructure deficits,” he said.

The chairman for the engagement, Barima Twumasi Bekoe, Dormaa Twafohene and Kofiasua Chief, expressed hope in President Mahama’s administration.

He told Ark FM he is optimistic that President Mahama’s “second coming” will transform Ghana, citing the Operation Recover All Loot initiative as a key effort to combat corruption and recover misappropriated resources.

He pledged the support of Nananom to rally behind the government to transform Ghana.
