A fire outbreak near the Wahaso Community Center in the Amansie Area destroyed a compound house and a container provision store on May 17, leaving two people injured and 15 residents displaced.
The fire began around 5:30 PM during maintenance of a water pump. According to preliminary information, workers were moving a machine that still contained petrol closer to a cooking area used by food vendor and shop owner Sister Cynthia. Petrol spilled from the tank and came into contact with fire, igniting the blaze.
The entire compound house and the goods in the provision store were destroyed. NADMO Amansie South District estimates the loss at GHS 600,000 for items and cash, and GHS 400,000 for the building. No fatalities were recorded, but two people sustained injuries.
The Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, the Assembly Member for Achiase Electoral Area, and community members responded to control the fire. The house was occupied by 15 people, including nine adult males, three adult females, two boys, and one girl. Landlord Opanin Yaw Amoah does not reside on the premises.
