Ashanti Regional Police Arrest Assembly Member and 14 Over Besease Palace Vandalism

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested the Assembly Member for Hiawu Besease Hon Osei Tutu, Some member of Unit committee and other people in connection with the vandalism of the Besease Palace in Atwima Nwabiagya municipal,Ashanti region,that occurred two and a half months ago.

According to police, trouble began on 12th March 2026 during the final burial rites of the late Nana Ama Amako, Queen of Besease, when some irate youth caused disturbances. Police intervened to restore calm.

The following day, some residents stormed the palace and vandalized property. A police vehicle and an ambulance were also damaged during the incident.

The case was initially handled by the Abuakwa Police before being taken over by the Ashanti Regional Command. Fifteen suspects are now in custody and assisting with investigations ahead of possible court action.

Speaking to the media, Nana Aboagye Asare, Atwima Beseasehene, briefed journalists on what transpired on 12th March and welcomed the arrests.

Among those arrested are Hon. Osei Tutu, Assembly Member for Hiawu Besease, some unit committee members, and other residents of the area.

Police say investigations into the damage to palace property are ongoing.

The suspects remain in police custody as the case proceeds.
