Gov’t Under Pressure Over NADMO’s 14-Month Salary Arrears as Rainy Season Peaks

 

The government is facing mounting pressure to settle salary arrears owed to staff of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), with workers saying they have gone 14 months without pay.

Affected employees across regional, municipal, and district offices report they have not received salaries since assuming duty after the change of government. The affected staff include directors, administrative personnel, and field officers responsible for disaster preparedness, emergency response, and coordination nationwide.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency on condition of anonymity, some workers said the delay has created severe financial strain.

“We have been at post for 14 months without pay. It is becoming increasingly difficult to meet our basic needs and family obligations,” one staff member said.

The employees also cited delays in issuing official staff ID cards, which they believe have complicated administrative and payroll verification processes.

Despite the hardship, workers say they remain at post and continue to serve communities hit by disasters and emergencies across the country.

Labour observers and civil society organizations have warned that the arrears could erode staff morale and weaken NADMO’s operational capacity at a critical time.

Analysts note the timing is especially urgent as Ghana enters the peak rainy season, when flooding and other disaster-related incidents typically surge and demand rapid response from NADMO teams.

“This is not only a welfare issue but also a matter of national preparedness. NADMO plays a vital role in disaster response and humanitarian assistance, and resolving these arrears should be treated as a priority,” one analyst told GNA.
