Amansie South District Assembly Anti-Galamsey tasksforce comprises, NADMO, and the Small-Scale Miners Association have begun a joint operation to stop illegal mining on river bodies in the district.

The team moved to the Offin River at Keneago where they chased out individuals engaged in illegal mining and burned several tools used for the illegal activity, including chanfan machines and other mining equipment.

Speaking after day afet the operation, Mr. Iddrisu Bernard Ishaq, District Director of NADMO, issued a strong warning to those involved.

He said the Assembly will not relent in its fight to protect water bodies and will continue with the operations.

Also speaking, Hon. Isaac Anning, Financial Secretary of the Small-Scale Miners Association in Amansie South, who spoke on behalf of the District Chairman, Mr. Kwaku Abonee, said the association is committed to the fight.
He noted that illegal mining on water bodies has numerous negative effects on the environment and communities.
