MINORITY CAUCUS ENGAGES FARMERS ACROSS BONO EAST REGION – ATEBUBU-AMANTIN, PRU WEST & KINTAMPO NORTH

Today, the Minority Caucus, led by the Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, continued its nationwide farmers’ engagement with a focused visit to Atebubu-Amantin, Pru West, and Kintampo North Constituencies in the Bono East Region.

The team interacted with maize, cashew, yam, rice, and pepper farmers, many of whom are currently stranded without buyers for their produce.

Across all three constituencies, farmers expressed deep frustration over the collapse of prices, lack of ready market, and the failure of government to activate the Buffer Stock system to absorb their produce.

Some revealed that maize prices have dropped drastically from about GH₵1,600 to as low as GH₵200 per bag, leaving them unable to recover their investment.

Farmers also raised concerns about the high cost of inputs such as fertilizer and labour, as well as the impact of imported goods, particularly rice and maize, which they say have crippled the local market.

Many lamented that despite reports of funds allocated to Buffer Stock, their produce continues to rot, while they struggle to repay loans and sustain their families.

Responding to the concerns, the Minority assured farmers that their voices have been heard and will be strongly represented at the national level.

The Caucus criticised the failure to release funds to support local farmers and called for immediate intervention to restore market confidence, ensure fair pricing, and provide timely payments.

The Minority reaffirmed its commitment to standing with farmers across the country and pledged to intensify its advocacy until government takes concrete steps to address the crisis facing the agricultural sector.
