RE: PURPORTED NOTICE OF POLL FOR 70 POLLING STATIONS IN THE MAMPONG CONSTITUENCY ON SUNDAY, 31ST MAY

The attention of the majority concerned members and grassroots supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Mampong Constituency has been drawn to a notice, attributed to supposed new Regional Representative Mr. Kwaku Atta Sarpong, directing that polling station elections be held at 70 polling stations on Sunday, 31st May, with special arrangements for Bosofour. We wish to place the following on record.

First, the polling station elections previously conducted in this constituency were marred by serious irregularities. Eligible party members were removed from the recognized polling station register, and this disenfranchisement affected the conduct of elections across the constituency’s more than 140 polling stations. The resulting disputes have already been formally brought to the attention of the Ashanti Regional executives through three separate petitions.

Second, those petitions remain undetermined. We understand the regional party is expected to rule on the matter shortly. It is therefore both premature and procedurally improper for any rerun to be scheduled before that ruling is delivered. A rerun announced ahead of a pending determination pre-empts the very process the petitioners are entitled to.

Third, the petitions concern the integrity of the register and the conduct of elections constituency-wide, across all 143 affected polling stations. A rerun limited to 70 polling stations does not address the substance of the complaint. It would leave the disputed register in place at the remaining stations and would not be accepted by the affected members as a credible or final resolution.

Accordingly, we respectfully but firmly call on the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee and the National leadership of the party to:

1. Deliver a ruling on the three pending petitions before any rerun is scheduled or conducted.

2. Suspend the notice of poll for 31st May until the petitions have been determined and the affected members have been formally heard.

3. Order a full audit of the polling station register, and the reinstatement of every member whose name was improperly removed, so that any rerun proceeds on a clean and verifiable register.

4. Ensure that any rerun covers all 143 affected polling stations, not a selected 70.

We make this appeal as committed members of the NPP. The NPP is in opposition and cannot afford avoidable internal division in a constituency of this importance. A flawed and contested internal election, conducted in haste and over the objection of a substantial body of members, damages the party far more than an honest delay would. Such practice by the current party executives is not new to you and us as far as NPP in Mampong constituency is concerned.

We urge all affected members and supporters to remain calm, orderly and peaceful, and to allow the party’s own structures the opportunity to do the right thing between now and the end of the week. We remain confident that the regional and national leadership will act fairly, or we advise ourselves and start our own thing earlier than 2028. Mampong constituents are ready to hear what we want to say.

Thank You.
