The Minority Caucus of Parliament has accused government of hypocrisy and double standards following the announcement by the Bank of Ghana ( BOG ) of e-levy of 0.75 % on all direct transactions from bank account to the wallet with effect from 1 June 2026 without Parliamentary approval.
Addressing the press at Parliament House on the issue , the Minority Leader and MP for Efutu Osahen Alexander Afenyor-Markin said the BOG later announced a suspension of the e-levy following public outcry on the decision, for further consultation with stakeholders.
Osahen Afenyor-Markin said the NDC in opposition vehemently criticised the imposition of e-levy by the government of former President Nana Akufo Addo only to introduce same barely one and half years after coming into power .
He therefore described the NDC government as a scam government.
The Minority Leader demanded immediate explanation to Parliament by the Minister of Finance Dr Ato Forson on the imposition of the 0.75% e-levy .
He also accused the NDC government of not fulfilling its promises to cocoa and rice farmers as well as the one job three shifts promise to the people.
