DCE Leads “Red Card to Child Labour” Campaign at Kwaekese in Afram Plains North

A Child Labour Awareness Programme was held on Sunday, June 21, 2026 at the Kwaekese Durbar Grounds in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District, drawing chiefs, parents, teachers, and community leaders from within and outside the district.

The event was organized by District Chief Executive Hon. Kate Mawuse Babanawo in collaboration with the District Social Welfare Director, Mr. Appiah.

Speaking after the programme, Hon. Babanawo said her “heart is filled with gratitude and hope,” adding that the turnout showed the district’s unity and commitment to protecting children.

Under the theme _“Red Card to Child Labour — Fair Play for Children, Decent Jobs for Adults”_, she delivered a strong message on child rights:

_“Childhood is for learning, growing, and dreaming — not for labour. Our children deserve to be in classrooms, on playgrounds, and preparing for a brighter future, not engaged in activities that rob them of their rights and opportunities.”_

The DCE stressed that the fight against child labour must continue beyond the durbar, through daily choices at home, in schools, workplaces, and communities.

She reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to strengthening child protection systems, supporting adult livelihood opportunities, and ensuring every child stays in school and achieves their dreams.
