NDC LEADERSHIP ISSUES DIRECTIVES FOR BRANCH ELECTIONS AHEAD OF 2028 POLLS

The National Executive of the National Democratic Congress has issued directives to all constituencies to organize branch executive elections ahead of the 2028 general elections.
The branch elections form part of the party’s reorganization efforts as it prepares for the 2028 elections.

Speaking during a thank-you tour to party members and residents in the Manhyia North Constituency, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah charged party executives and members to ensure the smooth running of the exercise.

*NDC 2026 Internal Elections Timetable*
*Branch Level – January to July 2026*
– *Jan 30*: Registers/Books returned to branches
– *Feb 10 – Mar 30*: Registration of new members and updating of existing party registers
– *Apr 2 – Apr 30*: Authentication of registered members at constituency level
– *May 2 – May 16*: Picking of nomination forms for branch positions
– *May 20 – Jun 30*: Branch vetting, appeals, elections, and validation of elected executives
– *By Jul 30*: Branch data collation completed; branches become eligible to participate in constituency, regional, and national elections 2026.
*Constituency Level – September to October 2026*
– *Sep 15 – 17*: Opening of nominations
– *Sep 18 – 24*: Completion and submission of nomination forms

– *Oct 6 – 7*: Opening of nominations
– *Oct 14 – 15*: Filing of nomination forms
– *Oct 16 – 17*: Vetting of aspirants

– *Dec 19*: National Executive elections / National Congress
*Key Eligibility Rules for Branch Elections*
– Aspirants must be paid-up party members, at least 18 years old, and active in the party for a minimum of one year.
– Voting at branches will be conducted by members; positions decided by simple majority.
– Each branch must appoint Research, Disciplinary, and Electoral Committees within a month after elections aec7
*Note for Government Appointees*: Any appointee seeking a party position must resign at least 6 months before filing nomination forms. That means:
– Branch level: Resign by Nov 2025 to contest May 2026
– Constituency level: Resign by Apr 2026
– Regional level: Resign by May 2026
– National level: Resign by June 2026.
