Anglican Diocese of Kumasi Inaugurates Manso Archdeaconry, Pledges Support for National Development

The Anglican Diocese of Kumasi has inaugurated the new Manso Archdeaconry, with Diocesan Bishop of Kumasi, Rt. Rev. Oscar Christian Amoah reaffirming the church’s commitment to education, health, and moral training to reduce the burden on the government.

Speaking at the inauguration, Bishop Amoah said religious organizations play a vital role in national development, especially in education.

He rejected claims that churches are a burden to the country, noting that many communities benefit from church-run schools and social programs.

“The contributions of religious organizations to education cannot be overstated. We remain committed to supporting national development through kingdom ministry,” he said.

The new Manso Archdeaconry was carved out of the Asante Bekwai Archdeaconry to bring church administration closer to the people.

St. Augustine Anglican Church was established in 1914,by Mr Jacob Cobbinna (Op. Boadu) who hailed from Mankessim in the Central Region of Ghana. The Church started under a structure roofed with palm branches, then to a mud building and the history is what we are witnessing today. Op. Boadu, started the Church with Op. Kwaku Ankrah and Obp. Afia Asor,they were the steering leaders, later a Catechist who was posted as a teacher by name Mr Kwashie joined them.

Rev. Father Alex Opoku Derby, acting Archdeacon of Manso Archdeaconry and Parish Priest for St Augustine Anglican Church at Manso Domi-Peposo,pledged to promote the work of the church in the area.

He also called on government to improve poor road networks in the district, saying better roads would help clergy and mission teams reach more communities to spread the gospel.

Nana Mensah Abrampa, Sompahene for Manso Nkwanta traditional council, representing Nana Bi-Kusi Appiah, comnended religious organizations for their contributions towards national development and urged them continues do more.
