Members of the Nerebehi Royal Family and the Nerebehi Traditional Sub-Council in the Atwima Nwabiagya Municipality have petitioned His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to intervene over an alleged attempt to impose an unqualified individual as the next chief of the community.
The petition was channeled through Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, Bantamahene.

According to Bafour Kwadwo Gyau, Abusuapanin of the Royal Family, the Queenmother, at their recent meeting introduced Mr. Akwasi Prempeh ,who works at Kejetia new market as the next occupant of the stool.
The Abusuapanin says Mr. Prempeh’s mother is not from the royal maternal family, as required by Akan custom. Only his father is from the family, which he says does not qualify him to occupy the stool.
He noted that if such a move is allowed, it will destroy Akan cultural heritage regarding the rightful selection of occupants to vacant stools.

Mr Kwame Wiredu, also speaking on behalf of the youth of the family also added their voices, calling on Otumfuo to intervene and stop any attempt to impose the said individual on them. They added that they have already invoked Otumfuo’s great oaths on the kingmakers.
The royal family is therefore appealing to the Asantehene to uphold tradition and ensure the rightful person from the maternal line is enstooled.
