Concerned NPP Supporters in Abuakwa North Threaten to Boycott Constituency Elections Over Unresolved Grievances

Some aggrieved supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Abuakwa North Constituency have threatened to resist the party’s upcoming constituency elections scheduled for Saturday, 11th July 2026, unless their grievances are addressed by the Eastern Regional leadership.

Speaking at a press conference in Akyem Kukurantumi, the leader of the aggrieved supporters, Kwasi Atuahene, popularly known as Wilson, accused the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North of allegedly conniving with some regional executives to remove certain polling station coordinators from the party’s electoral album.

According to him, the actions of the MP, together with the Regional Npp party Executives were aimed at protecting the interests of the MP rather than the overall interests of the party in the constituency.

He therefore called for the immediate reinstatement of the affected polling station coordinators, warning that failure to do so could undermine the peaceful conduct of the constituency elections.

Some of the affected polling station coordinators also expressed disappointment over their removal.

They argued that the alleged actions by the MP and some regional executives could negatively affect the NPP’s electoral fortunes in the constituency, stressing that they and their supporters may withdraw their support for the party if the matter remains unresolved.

Meanwhile, the Constituency Election Research Officer of the party, Nana Ofosu Asante Twum, cautioned that decisions perceived to be against the interests of grassroots members could have serious repercussions for the party.

He therefore appealed to the party leadership to engage the aggrieved youth and resolve their concerns to preserve unity ahead of the constituency elections.

Responding to the concerns, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Tonny Osei Adjei, stated that the aggrieved supporters are among individuals who, according to the party, worked against its officially endorsed candidates during the internal elections two years ago by allegedly promoting a “skirt and blouse” campaign during the general elections.

He explained that such conduct is contrary to the party’s constitution and regulations, adding that disciplinary measures were taken in line with the party’s rules. Mr. Osei Adjei, however, disclosed that the constituency has submitted a petition appealing the decision, and that the matter is currently under review by the appropriate party authorities.

He assured members that a final decision has not yet been made waiting for National executive council.
