Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament are calling on the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, to render an unqualified public apology and retract allegations of extortion levelled against the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Speaking to the media, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso, Hon. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, described the allegation as serious and potentially criminal, stressing that Mr. Gyamfi cannot make such accusations against their leader and expect to go without publicly retracting them.
Prof. Nyarko urged Sammy Gyamfi to exercise restraint and learn to respect individuals who deserve respect. He said he was not surprised by what he described as Mr. Gyamfi’s attitude, recalling previous allegations he claimed were made against former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, it is unacceptable for anyone to make allegations capable of damaging the reputation of public officials without taking responsibility for them.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Offinso North, Frederick Kyei Asamoah, called for the allegations to be referred to the appropriate authorities for investigation, arguing that the claims, if proven, could amount to criminal conduct.
Mr. Kyei said the Minority Caucus has confidence in its leader and believes Alexander Afenyo-Markin is innocent of the allegations levelled against him.
The Minority MPs are therefore demanding that Sammy Gyamfi publicly withdraw the allegation and render an unqualified apology to the Minority Leader.
