Stolen Idols Returned to Agogo Shrine as Suspect Detained by Police

Stolen items from the Akogya shrine at Agogo have been returned to the shrine, according to the Agogo Traditional Council. Police say one suspect is in custody.

Nana Agyei Frimpong, Gyaasehene of the Agogo Traditional Council, told the media after a libation ceremony that the idols and other items taken by unknown assailants had been brought back to the shrine.

He said the items were returned on May 14 after the suspect, named by the council as Kofi Frimpong, brought them from Accra to Agogo.

The council attributed the return to traditional beliefs surrounding the Akogya River.

Agogo Police have interdicted Kofi Frimpong and are handling the matter. The police have not released further details on charges or the investigation as of press time.

The Gyaasehene briefed the media following the handover and libation ceremony.
