Morfram Residents Lament Bad Roads Despite Paying Money For Reshaping

Chiefs and residents of Morfram, a community in the Asene Manso Akroso District of the Eastern Region, and its adjoining towns, have lamented over poor roads connecting the towns despite contributing money to the District Assembly to fuel DRIP machines for reshaping.

Addressing the press during a press conference at Akyem Morfram, Abusuapanyin Kwaku Anyan explained that about six months ago, a Chinese company plied the road with heavy earth-moving equipment for timber logging, after which the roads connecting the towns deteriorated.

The elders in the communities confronted them, and two drums of diesel and GH¢2,500 were given to the community to fuel the DRIP machines, which was handed over to the District DRIP Coordinator through the instructions of the Asene Manso Akroso DCE.

He alleged that for the past six months, the fuel and the GH¢2,500 given for the reshaping of the roads have been diverted for the grading of a community park at Akyem Akroso.

The residents are therefore calling on government to instruct the DRIP Coordinator and the DCE to come and reshape their roads because the situation is worsening.

Some of the residents also expressed the ordeal they have been going through after the roads deteriorated.

They have therefore given the DCE, Hon. Eric Ahinakwa, a one-week ultimatum to order the DRIP Coordinator to reshape their roads with immediate effect.

The Assembly Member for Morfram Electoral Area, Hon. Alhassan Seidu, reaffirmed how the deteriorated roads are affecting health, education and economic activities in the area.

The Asene Manso Akroso District DRIP Coordinator, Wahab Malaika Asiedu, responding to the accusations, admitted that the communities indeed contributed money to fuel the DRIP machines to reshape their roads, but the machines couldn’t work due to the rains.

He has therefore assured that the roads will be reshaped soon by the Feeder Roads Department.
