Residents and commercial motorcycle riders at Akoase in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region are living in fear following a series of attacks and killings targeting Okada riders in the area.
The riders are calling on the police and other security agencies to intensify patrols and urgently address the growing insecurity.
Tension escalated at Akoase when angry Okada riders stormed the local police station to demand justice over the alleged killing of one of their colleagues, identified as Junior.
According to the riders, a suspect identified as Peter Nuworsu, also an Okada rider, allegedly murdered Junior and later sold his motorcycle for GH¢3,000 to a third party.
The incident has sparked fear and panic among commercial riders, many of whom say they no longer feel safe carrying out their daily activities.
The riders are therefore appealing to security agencies to strengthen protection for motorcycle operators and residents in the community.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Akoase Electoral Area, Mark Kwame Boakye, has described the increasing attacks and killings of Okada riders as disturbing and alarming.
He assured residents that authorities are collaborating with security agencies to investigate the incidents and restore calm in the area.
