800 Ghanaians Evacuated from South Africa Arrive Home After Xenophobic Attacks

The first batch of over 900 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa has arrived in Ghana following recent xenophobic attacks.

The returnees landed this afternoon and were welcomed on arrival by officials and family members. Many expressed relief at being back home safely.

The government said each evacuee will receive transport assistance to get to their hometowns, along with a special allowance to support resettlement in Ghana.

Officials said more flights are expected to bring back the remaining Ghanaians in the coming days.

Authorities say they are working with South African counterparts to ensure the safety of Ghanaians still in the country.
