The Odikro of Ekye –Amamfrom Nana Kwasi Asante Fordjour II has done marvelous leadership job by taking bold step to resolve long pending Menace that usually occur between animal owners and crop farmers during farming season in the Afram –Plains.
This menace could not be tackle for decade but the Odikro of Ekye –Amanfrom for the past one and half years since his assumption as the Odikro of the land has summoned all stakeholders in the Farming and animals rearing to come to a dialogue to enable them enact possible rules and regulations to control their activities.
Present at the meeting are Odikro’s from various towns, villages, Agriculture extension officers, Environmental inspection officers, Farmers, local cattle farmers, Fulani Cattle farmers, Herdsmen, sheep owner, goat owners, Assembly members, community Police and the clergy.
The meeting has seen significant approaches to the menace and all stakeholders agreed to the laid down law been read to them by the Palace Secretary Hon. H.K Timothy Gborglah to put a stop to such cancar.
Spoke person for the crop farmers Nana Boame the Krachi community Headman speaking at the meeting emphasized with deep pains that the cattle owners and herdsmen are causing a lot of lost to them by destroying their farm crops in the late night and when been caught they denied even those who accept quilt don’t settle the compensation.
He added that some of the herdsmen at times rape the wives, injured them will cutlass, gun and even kill some members of the crop farmers.
He further added if such is not controlled by the authorities and the herdsmen in this farming season, it will be a war in the Afram –Plains between crop farmers and animal farmers most especially cattle owners/herdsmen.
Spoke person for Cattle rearers Alhadzi Sandali who is also the chief of the Fulani’s in the area also has emphasized that their operations stated are not intentional but sometimes they blame some individuals among them who don’t solve such situations amicably with the crop farmers when destruction of crops occurs.
He also blamed the herdsmen for their negligence in controlling the animals and thereby further added and admitted that they are sorry and will advise themselves to bring peace and harmony.
Nana Kwasi Asante Fordjour in his closing remarks stated in the meeting that if the Fulani’s don’t adhere to instructions given them towards the crop farmers, he will sack them from his land as soon as possible.
Nana again added that if your sheep or goat enters someone’s farm and been caught, the owner will be fined GHC 500.00 and the one who catch will receive GHC 50.00 for each sheep or goat been arrested or caught in the farm or someone’s farm.
Nana also said he is putting in more effort to bring al chiefs, odikros, headmen in the Afram Plains under one umbrella for unity to work effectively for their people and he is meeting all of the on 1st July,2026 at Ekye-Amanfrom which is going to be one the great initiative step to make Afram plains united and peacefully to fight for development from all works of life.
