Abandoned Police Post Rots in Bush at Asukese, Kwahu Afram Plains South

A police post at Asukese in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District has been left abandoned and is now rotting away in the bush, 12 years after it was constructed.

A visit by Gadeka Multimedia host and Onua TV/FM Afram Plains correspondent, Bright Gadeka, revealed that officers stationed at the post have been forced to operate under a tree because the building is unusable.

The post was built by the then-NPP government under former DCE Hon. George Ofori over 12 years ago. Successive administrations – NPP’s Hon. Evans Kyei Ntiri and now NDC’s Hon. Moses Tangme as DCE – have all left it to deteriorate, officers say.

Speaking to Gadeka Multimedia, the officers said the structure was completed but key items needed to make it habitable were never provided. These include running water, solar panel lighting, poles, and other basic fittings.

They also cited the poor state of the road. “Even in the dry season the dust is unbearable, and in the rainy season motorists splash us with mud. Yet we are still managing to protect lives and property,” one officer said.

The officers lamented that whenever incidents occur, the community and authorities blame the police, despite the poor working conditions.

The report serves as a call on the Member of Parliament and DCE for Kwahu Afram Plains South to urgently address the plight of officers at Asukese. Gadeka Multimedia is also appealing to NGOs, philanthropists, and individuals to intervene and prevent taxpayer money invested in the facility from going to waste.
