Assembly Members Call for Removal of MCE Over Leadership Concerns

Assembly Members of Ejisu Municipal Assembly have initiated a vote of no confidence against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Jerryne Asante, citing what they describe as a breakdown in leadership, poor collaboration, and unresolved issues affecting the municipality. Speaking on behalf of the Assembly Members, the Assembly Member for Kwamo Electoral Area, Hon. Kumtu Blankson, explained that the purpose of their meeting was to declare a vote of no confidence in the MCE and formally communicate their loss of confidence in her leadership.

According to Hon. Kumtu Blankson, the Assembly Members believe the MCE has failed to maintain a healthy working relationship with elected members. They alleged that major decisions are taken without adequate consultation, communication between the MCE and Assembly Members has deteriorated, and some members have been sidelined in matters relating to governance and development. They argued that these challenges have affected the effective administration of the Ejisu Municipality.

Hon. Kumtu Blankson further alleged that the MCE influenced the transfer of several key government officials, including the Municipal Police Commander and other heads of departments, a move the Assembly Members claim affected security coordination and the smooth administration of the municipality. According to the Assembly Members, these transfers, together with the handling of the Achiakrom issue and what they describe as a lack of consultation on major decisions, have contributed to their loss of confidence in the MCE’s leadership and strengthened their call for her removal.

The Assembly Members also alleged that financial and administrative procedures have been bypassed under the leadership of the MCE. According to them, a GH¢29,000 JCR receipt, which they claim should have been signed by an authorized Assembly official, was instead signed by the MCE’s personal aide. They contend that this action raises concerns about adherence to the Assembly’s established financial and administrative processes and have called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Assembly Members also cited the Achiakrom issue as one of the major reasons for their decision. They claimed the MCE’s handling of matters concerning Achiakrom contributed to growing dissatisfaction among members and residents. According to them, concerns surrounding the issue were not addressed in a manner that promoted transparency, consultation, and unity, further deepening tensions within the Assembly and reinforcing their decision to pursue a vote of no confidence.

The Assembly Members appealed to the government and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to take their concerns seriously and consider appointing new leadership for the municipality. They maintained that their decision was taken in the interest of restoring unity, improving cooperation, and ensuring effective development in Ejisu. The MCE has, however, denied the allegations against her and maintains that she remains committed to serving the people of Ejisu and working with all Assembly Members despite the disagreement.
