The Eastern South Regional Police Command has announced a temporary traffic diversion following a major road traffic crash at Birimso Bridge on the N6 Accra–Kumasi Highway, which has completely blocked both directions of the road.
According to the Police, the crash involved a high-occupancy passenger bus, a loaded articulated truck, and a sedan, resulting in a total obstruction of traffic for both Accra-bound and Kumasi-bound motorists.
Personnel from the Eastern South Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) based in Kibi, together with officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), are at the scene managing the emergency and directing traffic.
As a temporary measure, Accra-bound vehicles are being diverted through Kibi from Nsutam, while Kumasi-bound traffic is being redirected through Apedwa. The diversion is in effect today, Monday, August 3, 2026.
The Police have appealed to motorists and all road users to remain calm, exercise patience, and cooperate with officers on duty as efforts continue to clear the accident scene and restore normal traffic flow.
A visit to the scene by Oyerepa TV/FM Correspondent George Botha revealed that several passengers sustained burn injuries. However, the exact number of casualties and the full extent of injuries had not been confirmed at the time this report was filed.
