GAAM CONGRATULATES MAHAMA AYARIGA ON APPOINTMENT AS LOCAL GOVERNMENT MINISTER

● HAILS HON. AHMED IBRAHIM FOR HIS SUPPORT

The Ghana Association of Assembly Members (GAAM) has congratulated Hon. Mahama Ayariga on his appointment as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, describing the appointment as an opportunity to further strengthen Ghana’s decentralisation and local governance system.

The association expressed confidence that Hon. Ayariga’s experience, knowledge and commitment to public service would contribute significantly to the effective administration of the ministry and the promotion of good governance at the grassroots.

The GAAM President, Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, who spoke on behalf of the association, said the appointment was a significant development for the local governance sector and expressed confidence in the new Minister’s ability to deliver on his mandate.

According to him, GAAM looked forward to working closely with Hon. Ayariga and other stakeholders to deepen decentralisation, strengthen local governance institutions and ensure that Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) were adequately supported to deliver quality services to citizens.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank said effective decentralisation remained essential to national development because it brought governance closer to the people and allowed communities to participate meaningfully in decisions affecting their development.

He urged the new Minister to prioritise the concerns of Assembly Members and other local government actors, particularly issues relating to resources, logistics, capacity building and the effective implementation of decentralisation policies.

The GAAM President also expressed the association’s heartfelt appreciation to the outgoing Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, for his immense support and commitment to the association and the local governance sector during his tenure.

He commended Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim for his engagement with Assembly Members and his willingness to listen to their concerns, describing his support as valuable to the work of local government representatives across the country.

Hon. Ackah Nelson Frank, on behalf of GAAM, thanked the outgoing Minister for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours, while assuring him that his contributions to the local governance sector would be appreciated.

The GAAM President further congratulated Hon. Mahama Ayariga and assured him of the association’s readiness to collaborate with the ministry to advance decentralisation, strengthen local governance and promote sustainable development at the grassroots.
