A 25-year-old man from Subriso in the Ahafo Ano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region is demanding justice after he was allegedly beaten to near death at Mfante-Asikam-Ashiaman.
The victim, identified as Ibrahim Hayford, told reporters that he and his brother Ishmael had taken what they believed to be gold to a small-scale mining (galamsey) gold refinery at Asikam to be refined.
According to him, the substance turned out to be fake gold after testing.
He alleged that upon realizing the gold was fake, workers at the refinery site attacked him. His brother Ishmael managed to escape, but he was not so lucky.
“They covered my head with a sack bag and beat me mercilessly with cutlasses and sticks, accusing me of being an armed robber,” Ibrahim narrated.
He further alleged that the owner of the refining machine, known in the area only as “Coach,” struck him on the head with a large stick and pulled a gun on him, threatening to kill him.
Ibrahim Hayford is now appealing to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Ashanti Regional Police Command, and the Tepa Police Command to intervene and ensure justice is served.
He claimed that although the incident has been formally reported to the Tepa Police, no arrests have been made and there has been no follow-up.
The victim also alleged that the suspect has boasted of having influence over the police, claiming nothing can happen to him.
We are making effort to reach the Tepa Police Command and the said “Coach” for their side of the story.
