Escaped Pontoon Back In Operation As Yapei Queen Develops Fault

Kwahu Afram Plains, Eastern Region — April 19, 2026

The ferry that broke away last Wednesday, April 15, 2026, leaving passengers and drivers stranded, has been returned to service following technical faults with its replacement, the Yapei Queen.

The Yapei Queen reportedly developed steering and landing problems just two days after it was deployed to replace the faulty Nana Kwasi Gyimah ferry. The breakdown forced many travelers to rely on engine boats to cross the Afram River.

Speaking to Gadeka, Kwahu Afram Plains South DCE, Hon. Moses Tangme, said the Buipe Queen and Nana Kwasi Gyimah ferries have now been tied together and are operating jointly while engineers service the faulty engine on the Nana Kwasi Gyimah.

According to the DCE, the arrangement is the only immediate relief for stranded passengers and drivers. He confirmed the pontoon is now working “perfectly” and conveying vehicles to and from the Afram Plains without difficulty.

Travelers, traders, and visitors can now cross the Afram River without fear of being stranded, the DCE added.
