The directive was confirmed by Ministry sources on Saturday, as Ghanaians continue to grapple with erratic power supply nationwide, popularly referred to as dumsor.
The fire at the Akosombo facility, which is managed by the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), occurred on 23 April 2026. The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the control systems are yet to be officially disclosed. The center is responsible for real-time dispatch and balancing of power across the country.
In a related development, the Ministry has sanctioned a *major leadership shake-up at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Ashanti Region*. The identities of the affected officials and their replacements have not been made public.
GRIDCo is yet to issue a formal statement. An acting CEO is expected to be announced to ensure continuity of operations.
