Chief of Defence Staff Pays Working Visit to Accra-Kumasi Expressway Project Site

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces Lieutenant General William Agyapong,has paid a working visit to the Accra-Kumasi expressway project site where military engineers have begun construction works.

The CDS toured sections of the project being undertaken by the 48 Engineer Regiment and other engineering units of the Ghana Armed Forces. The visit was to assess progress, interact with engineers on the ground, and reaffirm the military’s role in delivering critical national infrastructure.

The Accra-Kumasi expressway project is intended to improve safety and cut travel time on one of Ghana’s busiest trade corridors. The involvement of the Armed Forces forms part of government’s plan to leverage military engineering expertise for accelerated road construction.

During the visit, the CDS Lieutenant General William Agyapong commended the engineers for their professionalism and urged them to maintain high standards and adhere to project timelines.

He was briefed on the works including earthworks, culvert installation, etc. currently underway at Oda-Asuboa stretch.

The Ghana Armed Forces has previously undertaken engineering projects including bridges, emergency roads, and disaster response infrastructure. Their role in the Accra-Kumasi expressway marks one of the largest military-led road projects to date.
