
The Agogo Traditional Council on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, paid a courtesy call on NDC National Chairman Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia at the party’s headquarters in Accra to officially inform him and party executives of the passing of Agogomanhene Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong.
During the visit, the delegation also invited the NDC leadership to attend the 40day observantion of the late Agogomanhene, scheduled for June 4, 2026.

This follows an earlier visit last week by a separate delegation from the Agogo Traditional Council, led by Nana Afrakoma Serwaa Kusi Obodum, the Paramount Queen Mother of Agogo paid a courtesy call on Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang at the Jubilee House to inform her of the chief’s passing.

Nana Kwame Akuoko Sarpong, the Agogomanhene, was a respected traditional ruler in the Ashanti Region. The 40-day observance is a key Akan funeral tradition held days after a chief’s passing to officially announce the death to the community and begin mourning rites.
The Agogo Traditional Area falls under the Asante Kingdom and plays a significant role in both cultural and local governance affairs in the Ashanti Region.
