C/R: Tailor in Critical Condition After Suspected Self-Harm Incident at Mankessim

Mankessim, Central Region — April 27, 2026

A tailor in his late thirties is receiving emergency treatment after sustaining serious injuries in a suspected self-harm incident at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality on Sunday.

The man, whose name is being withheld, was found by a friend in a locked room with injuries to his neck. He is from Kumasi and had been in Mankessim on a tailoring contract with apprentices, according to information gathered by Oyerepa Nana Mankata.

Reports indicate the victim resides at Ajumako Techiman and commutes daily to Mankessim for work.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, he had gone to a friend’s residence in Mankessim to rest. While the friend was out, the victim was later discovered in the room with serious injuries.

The friend said he returned to find the room locked and received no response after knocking. He forced open a window and found the victim needing urgent medical attention. Neighbors assisted in getting him to Mankessim Roman Hospital. He was subsequently referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, where he remains in critical condition.

Friends and apprentices say they are unaware of any issues he may have been facing and that he had not shared any concerns with them. The family is yet to be officially informed.

The Mankessim Divisional Police have been notified and have opened an investigation into the incident.
