Ashanti North Police Secure 195-Year Sentence for 5 Robbers in Nsuta Circuit Court

The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has secured a total of 195 years’ imprisonment with hard labour for five convicts at the Nsuta Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.

On 30th April 2026, the Nsuta Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Mr. Simon Nketia Gagah sentenced the five in two separate cases. The convicts are:

1. Kofi Adu alias K2, 33, Uber driver and leader

2. Owusu Patrick alias Ike, 21, farmer

3. Francis Obeng alias Amani, 22, taxi driver

4. Karim Nurudeen alias Kusheshe, 21, vulcanizer

5. Akwasi Agyei alias Show Boy, 22, taxi driver

Two others, Edem and Okra remain at large.

Sentences handed down:

– A1 Kofi Adu: 25 years on both counts in case 1, and 50 years on both counts in case 2

– A2 Owusu Patrick: 20 years on both counts in case 1, and 40 years on both counts in case 2

– A3, A4, A5: 20 years each on both counts in case 1 and case 2

A1 and A2 received enhanced sentences because they are ex-convicts. All sentences will run concurrently.

Modus operandi: The group used deception and blackmail, posing as gold dealers and engaging fetish priests who claimed to extract gold from ancestral homes to gain victims’ trust. They monitored victims before robbing them.

Locations & period: Between the last quarter of 2025 and first quarter of 2026, they operated in Kumawu, Effiduase, Ejisu, Bonwire, Yawnkrumakrom, and parts of the Eastern and Western Regions.

Arrests & exhibits: Between 24th and 27th April 2026, a Special Operations Team from NOD/Surveillance Unit, Effiduase base, arrested the suspects at Ejisu Asotwe, Donaso, Bonwire, Owen, Nkwankwanua and Akyenakrom. Items retrieved included 5 cutlasses, 1 cutter, 1 hammer, a Toyota Matrix with registration GN 886-19 used for operations, 4 Android phones, 8 keypad phones, cash, NHIS and Ghana cards, talismans and others.

Case facts:

First case: On 28th Dec 2025 at Bonwire, the group stormed a shrine, assaulted 48-year-old fetish priestess Nana Serwaa, and stole GHC 7,600 cash and GHC 1,200 via mobile money transfer.

– Second case: On 31st Dec 2025 at Dadease/Kumawu, they attacked Nana Afia Konadu’s shrine, assaulted victims and stole GHC 20,000 cash, 5 mobile phones, and a fugu containing GHC 45,000.
