Ayanfuri Mmratehene Dies After Accidental Shooting During Funeral

The Ayanfuri Traditional Area is in mourning after Mmratehene Nana Kwabena Okyere died from an accidental gunshot wound sustained during the final funeral rites of the Ayanfuri Abusuapanin on Saturday.

According to reports, the chief accidentally discharged a pump-action gun while dancing at the funeral grounds. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital for emergency treatment.

Hospital staff pronounced him dead shortly after arrival. His body has been deposited at the Dunkwa-On-Offin Municipal Hospital Mortuary pending preservation and further investigation.

Assembly Member for the area, Castro Kwabena Ennin, confirmed the incident and described it as “tragic and heartbreaking” for the community. Police say investigations into the circumstances of the shooting are ongoing.

Residents and traditional leaders have expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of the respected chief.
