Suame Magazine Fire Kills One, Destroys Vehicles and Structures

A fire outbreak at Suame Magazine Zone 18 in Kumasi claimed the life of a 70-year-old woman and destroyed several properties in the early hours of Saturday, May 16, 2026.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, Ashanti Regional Command, the fire was reported at 03:22 hours and involved wooden structures, metal containers, vehicles, and vehicle spare parts near the garages.

Fire crews from the Breman and Komfo Anokye Fire Stations arrived at 03:34 hours and brought the blaze under control by 03:59 hours. It was fully extinguished at 04:51 hours using water and foam.

The deceased, identified as Madam Bawama Naya, was trapped in the fire. Her body has been handed over to the Suame District Police Command for preservation and investigation.

Firefighters managed to salvage three Sprinter buses, one Smiling Benz bus, and one Opanka bus. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The GNFS is urging operators in industrial and commercial areas to observe basic fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
