GoldBod Procures 10 Speed Boats to Support Fight Against Illegal Mining–Sammy Gyamfi

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has reiterated the institution’s commitment to supporting government efforts to combat illegal mining activities destroying the country’s forest reserves and water bodies.

According to him, the GoldBod has procured ten speed boats which will be handed over to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to help patrol rivers and chase illegal miners operating on the country’s water bodies.

Speaking at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi, Sammy Gyamfi stressed that the government remains determined to protect Ghana’s natural resources from environmental destruction caused by illegal mining activities.

He explained that the speed boats will strengthen surveillance and enforcement efforts on major rivers heavily affected by galamsey operations.

Mr. Gyamfi further disclosed that the GoldBod is sponsoring two gold refinery companies to refine Ghana’s gold locally instead of exporting the raw minerals to other countries for processing.

According to him, refining gold in Ghana will help create jobs, increase revenue generation and add value to the country’s mineral resources.

He noted that the initiative forms part of broader government efforts aimed at maximizing benefits from the mining sector while ensuring responsible and sustainable mining practices.
