The Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Dr. Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has pledged to walk from Dormaa Ahenkro to Accra if President John Dramani Mahama completes the proposed Accra-Kumasi Expressway before the end of his tenure.
According to the chief, the road project is one of the most important infrastructure developments Ghanaians have long anticipated and would significantly improve transportation and economic activities along the corridor.
Speaking during a courtesy call they paid on President Mahama at the Presidency, Dr. Osagyefo Agyemang Badu II expressed the support of the Bono people for the government’s Big Push infrastructure programme and commended the President for prioritising road development across the country.
He explained that although the journey could not be completed in a single day, he and his entourage would stop at the palaces of chiefs along the route before continuing the journey to the capital.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said a significant progress on the proposed Accra – Kumasi Expressway, with over 70 kilometres of the right-of-way already cleared as preparatory works continue.
He added that they have also started paying compensation to individuals whose farms and properties lie along the project route, as part of efforts to ensure a smooth implementation process.
The expressway, when completed, is expected to reduce the travel distance between Accra and Kumasi from about 270 kilometres to 198 kilometres, significantly improving road connectivity between the two major cities.
