NDC Ashanti Organizer Hopeful ‘Ostrich’ Clears GHC60,000 Hospital Bills for Mothers at KATH

Mr. Richard Osei, popularly known as “Ostrich” and Ashanti Regional Organizer hopeful for the National Democratic Congress, NDC, has paid outstanding hospital bills totaling GHC60,000 for nursing mothers detained at the Mother and Baby Unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, KATH, in Kumasi.

Speaking to newsmen during the presentation, Mr. Osei said he was moved to act after learning that several mothers were being kept at the facility for weeks after successful delivery due to financial constraints.

“I felt sad hearing that these mothers, after going through childbirth, were still stuck in the hospital because they couldn’t afford their bills. No mother should endure that,” he said.

Mr. Osei presented the cash donation to cover all mothers currently on admission with unpaid bills at the unit.

Dr. Kwadwo Saabim, a medical officer at the Mother and Baby Unit, who received the donation on behalf of the mothers, confirmed that financial difficulties were prolonging hospital stays for many patients.

He said the intervention would immediately ease the burden on affected mothers and free up bed space for new cases.

Some of the beneficiary mothers expressed relief and gratitude, thanking Mr. Osei for the timely support.

Some of them confirmed that, they have spent more than two months at the facility due to financial constraints to pay for their bills.
