Twifo Praso Traders Protest Over Alleged Bias in New Market Store Allocation

Tensions are rising in Twifo Praso, Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, Central Region, after market women accused the District Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Yawson, of political bias and unfairness in the allocation of newly constructed market stores.

The aggrieved traders claim the distribution sidelined original occupants in favor of National Democratic Congress, NDC, party loyalists.

According to market leadership, construction of the stores began under the previous New Patriotic Party, NPP, administration. At the time, traders operating on the site were asked to relocate temporarily.

“We wrote down all our names and they assured us that once the stores were completed, we, the original sellers, would be given first priority to return,” one of the leaders said.

However, the traders allege that after completion, the original registration list was discarded. They claim none of the displaced traders received stalls, while the spaces were instead allocated to NDC members, with some individuals reportedly given multiple shops.

The women described the process as “unfair and greedy,” arguing that ordinary traders who depend on the market for daily income have been left out, while well-connected persons benefited.

They say they have petitioned central government, traditional authorities, and regional officials to intervene and ensure a transparent reallocation.

As of publication, Hon. Isaac Yawson had not responded to the allegations. Efforts to reach him for comment are ongoing. Oyerepa Online will update this story with the DCE’s response and any official statement from the Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Assembly.
