HON ANNOH-DOMPREH ADVOCATES STRONGER PROTECTION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES

The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh, has called for urgent reforms to the disability laws to ensure that persons living with disabilities receive the opportunities, protections, and support guaranteed under the law.

Contributing to a statement on disability issues on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, Hon. Annoh-Dompreh emphasized that persons with disabilities are not asking for sympathy but are demanding equal rights and opportunities as citizens of Ghana. He called for a review of the Persons with Disability Act to include stronger enforcement mechanisms, employment opportunities, and tax relief measures to improve the lives of persons living with disabilities.

The Minority Chief Whip further expressed concern that nearly two decades after the passage of the Disability Act, key provisions required to fully operationalize the law remain outstanding. He urged Cabinet to expedite consideration of the proposed amendments and submit the revised bill to Parliament for approval.

Hon. Annoh-Dompreh reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for an inclusive society where every Ghanaian, regardless of physical ability, has the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development and enjoy equal access to opportunities.
