Tension at Ekye Amanfrom Beach Over Premix Fuel Price Hike Despite Minister’s Directive

Tension flared at the Ekye Amanfrom landing beach in Kwahu Afram Plains South District on Saturday, June 20, 2026, after fisherfolk accused premix fuel sellers of defying the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture’s directive on pricing.

Information gathered by ONUA TV/FM and Gadeka Multimedia indicates that premix fuel is being sold at GHC 230 per yellow gallon, well above the GHC 180 maximum price announced by the minister.

Fisherfolk at the beach said they heard the minister’s communique clearly fixing the price at GHC 180, and are angry that sellers are charging GHC 230 instead.

“We all heard the Minister. Why are they selling to us at GHC 230 when government says GHC 180? Government must come clear,” one fisherman said.

Speaking to the media, one seller defended the hike, saying the invoice they received from suppliers forced them to increase the price despite the minister’s earlier directive.

The dispute sparked heated exchanges between buyers and sellers at the landing beach, with fisherfolk demanding that the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture and the minister herself explain the discrepancy and enforce the approved price.

Premix fuel pricing has long been a flashpoint in fishing communities, where cost hikes directly affect operational expenses and fish prices at market.
