Yapei Queen Ferry Damages Marine Cable, Causes Total Blackout in Afram Plains North and South

The Yapei Queen Ferry has damaged a marine power cable on the Afram River, resulting in a total power outage in Afram Plains North and South Districts.

According to reports, the incident occurred at about 10:00 p.m. yesterday during the ferry’s usual late evening crossing. The pontoon is said to have veered off its normal route into the marine cable passage, causing damage to the cable.

This is the second time in recent months that the ferry has damaged the same underwater cable. The previous incident took weeks to repair.

Residents have been told that power will remain off until engineers and technicians from Accra and Koforidua are able to assess and fix the damage.
