NATIONAL DEPUTY QURAN AFFAIRS CHAIRMAN ALLEGES SALE OF GHANA’S SLOTS TO NIGERIANS, PETITIONS GOV’T, OTUMFUO

The National Deputy Chairman of the Quran Recitation Affairs Committee, Dr. Abdul-Razak Mohammed Issahak, has appealed to government, the National Chief Imam and Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, to investigate an individual who he alleges picks Nigerians from Nigeria and sells Ghana’s slots to them.

According to Dr. Abdul-Razak, the said person secures Ghanaian passports for the Nigerians to represent Ghana at the World Quran Recitation Competition every year, even though Ghana has very good and qualified candidates.

He alleged that the act is motivated by personal financial gain and urged authorities to hand the person over to the law to serve as a deterrent.

Dr. Abdul-Razak made this call during a ceremony organized by the Buobai Muslim Community in the Asokore Mampong Municipality to welcome and honour 19-year-old Zainab Abdul Rahmat who secured second place in the World Quranic Competition organized by Saudi Arabia, and three other delegates who represented Ghana at the competition.

The Buobai Zongo Chief, Naaba Hamid Tijani Yakubu, also added his voice to the call. He urged the youth in Zongo communities to stay away from drug abuse and the misuse of social media, describing the two as major threats destroying the future of young people. He called on parents, Imams and community leaders to join hands to guide and counsel the youth to live responsible and disciplined lives.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Zainab Abdul Rahmat, who placed second in the World Quranic Competition in Saudi Arabia, in an interview with Oheneba Dankwah Jupitar Owusu, said the Holy Quran is a guide that gives direction to life. She explained that the Quran educates and directs people to live a morally upright life, and encouraged the youth to devote time to learning and understanding the Quran to help shape their character.
